The study, in particular, emphasizes the innovation brought by new tools in continuous evolution such as: algorithmic-generative parametric design and 3D printing. The research and development in these fields of investigation have allowed to extend the use of the computer from an instrument aimed at speeding up repetitive operations to an instrument of control and formal experimentation of new design and expressive approaches in architecture, bio-construction and design. The contribution presents some results of an ongoing research that deepens the study of new design solutions to design and implement spatial grid structures of free geometric shape using the material bamboo. Although bamboo is one of the main building materials in the field of sustainable architecture and a rapidly growing renewable resource, it is currently underutilized due to the lack of adequate connection systems. Bamboo is a naturally available renewable resource that is quite strong and suitable for structural applications. A novel connection system for bamboo culms is described, proposing new and advanced solutions that provide the designer with maximum freedom in composing free-form structures. The process makes use of the realization of 3D printed prototypes of the connection joints that validate the defined technological solution, allowing to define new experimental approaches.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][/et_pb_accordion][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Francesco DI PAOLA Professore associato | PhD, Associate ProfessorUniversità degli Studi di Palermo | University of Palermo Modelowanie algorytmiczno-generatywne i druk 3D do połączeń w konstrukcjach bambusowych | Algorithmic-generative modeling and 3D printing for connection joints in bamboo structures [PL] Profesor nadzwyczajny – reprezentacja i badanie architektury.
